Every spouse no matter how many times you have moved or how little hates to hear the phrase "Honey we have orders". It's the most common phrase next to I love you in the Military. When moving in the Military you have many options, and if you don't know those options you can get the bad end of the stick. The Military offers a varity of ways to move, from a Partial D.I.T.Y. move, to a move done by a private contractor that your Transportation Office sets up for you.

During a PCS move things are hard and stressful for everyone involved. No matter how much notice you get for a PCS move, it never seems like theres enough time. You need to get a hold of transportation and get a moving date, decide what kind of move you are going to do, what route your going to take, and start scheduling for all of your Outprocessing Briefs. Moving can be one of the most trying times in the Military next to Deployments.

Here are a few tips when you hear that oh so familiar phrase "Honey we have orders".

Start making a check list with your spouse. Chances are he or she is going to be busy at work and may forget a couple of things that need to be done.

Check into Special Power of Attorneys so that if your spouse if having a hard time getting things done you have a Power of Attorney so that you are able to attend briefings.

Sit down and talk about the different options you have when moving. Find out which would be the best for you.

Start looking into plane tickets of you are flying to your destination.

Look up the next post your going to, and find out how long the wait is for Post Housing, and what reality companies are around the Post, that help Military.

Don't get stressed out about the move. The Military does try hard to take care of every soldier. When you feel like you are juggling to much, take a step back and relax. Things will work out.
