Contaminated Pet Food Recalls in Effect The sad stories are all over the news Diamond Pet Foods have issued a recall of several of their pet food products contaminated with highly toxic aflatoxin. The toxin has caused the death of over 100 dogs, and those that survive may develop liver damage/cancer. There is a lot of information available about the recall, and maybe some hard-earned lessons for us devoted pet owners. On the Cornell website, the article mentions how many dogs actually refused to eat their dog food, though they had eaten it before. Many owners went to great lengths to entice the dogs to eat, adding gravy/goodies and so forth. The dogs either smelled or tasted the toxin and did not want to eat it. If your dog suddenly refuses to eat especially if they have eaten the same food in the past consider that there may be something wrong with the food. Their senses are much more highly developed than ours are they can sense things we cannot. There may be a medical reason for the refusal, but we should keep in mind other reasons why they refuse to eat no matter how far-fetched they seem. Here is some basic information about the recall, and where to look for help. If you have any question as to whether your pet has been affected, contact your vet immediately.
