Andrea - Owner/Editor-in-Chief

Andrea is an Air Force wife and mother of three.  She owns a Virtual Assistant business, which she started in February 2000, providing creative services and office support to small businesses and entrepreneurs, via the Internet, phone, and fax.

Andrea has been a military spouse for 13 years.  In that time, she has learned that military life is very rewarding, but can also be very demanding.  She has made it her personal mission to assist other military family members.  To help achieve her goal, Andrea has created 4MilitaryFamilies.com, which she hopes is a one-stop online resource for military family members.

Beverly - Deployments

Beverly is a stay-at-home mom. Her husband is prior Navy, currently serving with the Army National Guard. They have two children, Sean and Gabby.

She home-schools and manages her own business, working out of her home. Her parents have been married 50 years, with her father serving over 20 years in an Air Force SAC unit. She has one younger sister, one niece and lots of extended family.

She was born and raised military.  She has lived in Virginia, Japan, Michigan, Massachusetts, Okinawa, New Jersey, Alabama, Florida, Arizona, Alaska, Maryland, Minnesota and Washington, DC -- around the world and back again.

Kathy - Divorce

I am a Special Education Teacher/Mary Kay Director/Army Wife of 30 years/ soon to be an ex wife by his choice/ my daughter is an Army Doctor/my son is a CPA Capt. Army/ I am a mega resource person for women.

Lisa - Education

Lanette - Finances

I was born and raised in Massachusetts, and never wanted to leave New England. Then, I married a Naval Officer who has since taken me from Newport, RI to Gulfport, MS to Annapolis, MD. We have two children, Abby and Joanna, who keep us very busy.

In my life before kids, I worked in Insurance, Financial Aid, Education (I have taught all levels of math from pre-algebra to Calculus), and Tax Prep (which I absolutely loved and can’t wait to get back to once my girls are in school!). I currently manage my own business selling handmade cards and invitations and am also a demonstrator for The Angel Company. This past spring, I was lucky enough to be awarded The Military Spouse Fellowship for AFCPE’s Accredited Financial Counselor Program. I am excited about combining two of my strengths… education and finance… to help other military families set and reach their financial goals.

In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, reading, cross-stitching, scrapbooking, and stamping. I come from a long line of thrifty ‘Yankees’ and love bargain-hunting of all sorts (especially thrift stores, yard-sales, and flea-markets).

Jeff - Healthcare

Hannah - Legal Issues

AF brat for 24 years Military Spouse for 3 years....AD JAG 6 years, actively drilling JAG reservist....

Suellen - Parenting

Cyndi - Pets

I love animals.

We hear that a lot. Cute, cuddly, endearing….hmmm…that could be me???!!! Kidding. Dogs, cats, ferrets, horses, goats, birds, fish - you name it - I love them all. My knowledge is woefully lacking in the exotics I admit, but they are fascinating.

I am a 38-year-old Rhode Islander, married for 12 years this December to a wonderful Army officer (Tim) currently serving with the 101st Airborne out of Ft. Campbell, KY. He will be deployed to Southeast Baghdad for a year, beginning this fall. My "kids" are all furry… Bristol, my soon to be 6 year old Whippet and Sadie, my 5 year old German Shorthaired Pointer are my current family. I was blessed for nearly 14 and 16 years respectively with Spice and Sugar, two darling cats. I lost them in 2002 and 2004, and miss them so much still! I also had a bunny named Shadow for a few years. No children in the traditional sense.

I always had a great interest in animals - horses, dogs and cats especially, and it developed over the years. I am partially deaf, which sparked an interest in service dogs, leading to the addition of Bristol to our household at 8 weeks of age. At that time, I also had Sugar and Spice. I got them as TINY kittens (rescue), and adored them so so much. In researching hearing dogs I developed close friendships with several trainers experienced in training service dogs - with their close guidance, we trained Bristol ourselves as a hearing alert dog. It sparked a passion that has led to my attending various seminars by the Assoc. for Pet Dog Trainers, Suzanne Clothier and Delta Society. Their content varied from aggression to zoonotic diseases. I have attended and eventually taught positive reinforcement obedience classes, clicker classes, flyball classes, agility and Bristol was certified by the American Red Cross as a Therapy Dog. I am certified in Pet First Aid by the American Red Cross and have given presentations on pet health and first aid as well. In WA State I spent a few years managing two doggie day care/self wash/training facilities, handling packs of 50+ dogs and training employees to do the same. Sadie joined our family from neglected circumstances in July of 2001. I have trained her in the very basics for Search and Rescue, but time constraints have interfered with her full-blown training. I even managed to teach Bristol the hokey-pokey!!! (It's very cute.) I have fostered various dog and cat strays, including a 3-legged pit bull pup and a very rather snobby Shiba Inu!

I am passionate about education regarding pet ownership and responsibility. I have been fortunate to attend various pet expos and wholesalers' demos and have found many resources regarding toys, treats, shampoos, fencing - more dog and cat than others, but I do have resources for other species as well. I have endless pet loss and grief resources, animal product suppliers and rescue links.

And I work as a florist too.

Just threw that in to wake you up. True, though!

So there you have me - a middle aged devoted wife who adores her family, animals, flowers and iced lattes. And I babble!

Geri - Support For Parents

I run my own fitness studio, Geri's Fitness Studio, in the basement of my home - teaching fitness classes 3 night per weeks/ also personal training and fitness consulting. I also work part-time as Secretary for my husband's business- Jim Travis Builder, Inc. (office set up also in our home). In the past I worked for the YMCA in Louisville, Ky. and Westbay Athletic Club in Bradenton, Florida, both jobs as Fitness Director/ Instructor. In 1989 through 1991 I worked as a substitute teacher for Spencer County School system (Taylorsville, Ky.) where I live.

I am the daughter of a World War II veteran, Private Kenneth Horn United States Army. I am the wife of a Vietnam veteran, Sgt. Jimmy Travis, US Army. And now the mother of Major (Select) Keith Travis, currently serving in the United States Air Force, with 9 1/2 years in, and has served in Desert Fox (Kuwait) and in Operation Enduring Freedom, (Pakistan), now stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, Alabama. My sister also served in the US Army for 3 years and married her Sgt. at that time. Now my brother-in-law, Master Sgt. Juan Morales, has retired from the US Army with 26 years in service.

Mary - Recipes

Mary was born in College Station, TX, number 8 of 9 children. She now lives in Seabrook, TX, and is the mother of a Navy soldier, George, stationed in Guam on the USS Frank Cable. Cooking and collecting cookbooks and recipes are a favorite pastime. In her collecting, she created her own cook book of "favorites", including those cherished family recipes. After her son got settled into housing in Guam, he requested a copy so he could have access to and try his hand at those family favorites.

Her parents were raised in New Orleans before making Texas their home, bringing that Creole cooking influence with them. Her father was a WWII Navy Night Fighter and her mother a traditional homemaker. excellent cook, and seamstress.

In her spare time, Mary enjoys cooking, travel, photography, digital editing, scrapbooking, surfing the net, enhancing my computer skills, and taking her golden retriever, Desi, to the bay to chase the ball.

Tiffany - Travel

I am a stay at home wife/mom with our 2 children, 11 year old Samaria and 3 year old Ethan. My husband and I have been married for 13 years. I am Coastie wife and we are currently stationed in Michigan. I enjoy volunteering at my children's schools, riding dirt bikes with the family and surfing the internet. We have done our share of traveling about the states. We have lived in North Carolina, California, Washington state and Michigan. We try to go on a family vacation at least once a year. Been on two cruises, seen New Orleans, Mississippi, Florida, Mexico and Canada. I spend many hours online, looking for that perfect vacation and perfect price all year long. Please email me any questions about traveling, or if you have any great experiences (or not so great) with travel, please email those as well.

Visitors' Comments:

I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your work on this site. It really does offer a lot of information to people in the military about their pets. I live in Hampton Roads, Virginia and work with animals. We have a lot of military members thinking that they MUST give up their pets. It just takes a little education and patience but you can keep your pets. I just wish there were more people out there like you willing to make the effort to help these animals stay with their people. (And people willing to make a little effort to keep their critters!)

Hello! I'm the manager of the Offutt Friends and Families group on MSN's Groups and I am so excited that our site is on your list of Offutt AFB groups!! Thank you so much for having our group out there for future and present Offutt Families, we're thankful and very impressed with your site!! Please keep up the great work!!!

The site looks like it will be very informative and helpful. I'll be surfing it at some length as time goes on.

I think this is great! The support is wonderful. Thanks :)

Hi, my name is Nate and I wanted to send you a quick email to compliment the job you have done with your site 4militaryfamilies.com. I was browsing around the wide world of the net today looking for information linking to Veterans and I definitely thought your site was worth a good read.

I just wanted to tell you I just happened to stumble upon your website, I was ecstatic to see all the wonderful things listed. Thank you

I am so glad I found this site! I signed up for another group a few months ago and had to have my name remove because of the profanity...seems like it was just one of those sites that offered just that! I am glad you are here!

I wanted to PRAISE you for this AWESOME sight!! This is WONDERFUL!

Thank you for including my book, E-MAIL TO THE FRONT, in your Amazon list of good books for military families. One of my readers mentioned that she'd found the book from your list. Thanks for providing such a great service and for your terrific website to help military families!

I never knew about your webpage and I've been a military wife for about seven years. I luckily found it just recently -- and it's absolutely wonderful. I wanted to personally thank you for sharing your time doing this. I can't wait to tell my military friends!!

It is really nice to have a site with information, suggestions, and links regarding the military and its families. I am a new military wife and totally confused so far, ha ha! Thanks for your site!

I just want to let you know that I like your site. I am in the US Army and my hometown is Portales and I found your site and looked at it and I really enjoyed it. I am also currently deployed to Iraq. Well keep up the good work.

I just want to thank you for taking the time to read and reply to my e-mail. May God bless you for being so caring.

I somehow stumbled onto this site today, and was really impressed with all the information provided. Thanks so much, being a military wife is hard enough, without having to figure everything out for yourself. Thanks for the great site.

THANK YOU... I am not an American, but my heart belongs to the American soldiers in the front... and thank you for supporting them... God Bless You...

I have to tell you this is the most active and largest support group I've seen online...which is great...but also a little worrying because there are millions of families, so i wonder what all of them are doing!!? Though at the rate you're going you may have millions here soon enough!...Thanks for your help and for the group. I really enjoy the ladies I've met on here and am so impressed with their strength and humor in the face of all of this!

I would like to tell you that I saw you on the news tonight, and I thought it was great to know you've done this. I am also from Portales, and my little brother is in the Army. He's in Iraq right now, and doing well. You made a great statement to the entire state of New Mexico by encouraging others to support our troops. It feels good to hear a local person reaching out to so many people. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for creating this website. hopefully it will help me through his difficult time and hopefully I'll make some new friends.

My 18 year old son enlisted in the Air Force this week. He wants to be in the ParaRescue Program and has scored sufficiently on the ASVAB. I am pleased, but more than a little scared. Thank you for the positive and soothing tone of your website.

I have to let you know about a NEAT lady (Christina Litteral at Childress Apartments in Dayton, OH) that I just rented an apt from. I found her on your site under WPAFB, OH and I tell you she is highly professional and this complex is the greatest! What a wonderful find - THANK you so much!!

I just surfed into your web site and I am so glad I did. I love your web site because I have never seen a site with so much information to help families like mind (military). Keep up the good work I will pass your link along.
